Audio Showreel

Trailer – ‘A Floresta é Nossa’ (P. Munhoz / Tecnokena)

The trailer for a feature animation in which I have participated on the audio side (sound design, re-recording mixer). Due for release January 2013 – enjoy!

Trailer – ‘Fora de Controle’ (Rede Record)

For this mini-series I have participated in the Foley work:

Winning entry of October’s Sound Design Challenge on Dynamic Interference
This very interesting challenge shows my sound design capabilities. Out of the first sound (electronic interference) I had to create 5 new sounds, using only a maximum of 4 processes (plug-ins, time-stretch, etc.). Check out the corresponding entry on Dynamic Interference.

The audio showreel shown here contains excerpts from the following films:
Macbeth No More (Director: S. Krishnamma)
A spooky 28-minute short based on ‘Macbeth’ shot on location in London. ‘Macbeth No More’ was part of the Skillset Filmlab Take 4 and gave me a lot of opportunities for sound design. Even though the production audio contained good backgrounds for the cemetery setting lots of layers were added to enhance the feeling of the film. Music is used scarcely to heighten the spooky environment and underline the appearance of Duncan’s and Banquo’s ghosts.
The Last Pagan (Director: J. Maroske)
This comedy short directed by J. Maroske has a peculiarity to it: All dialogue has been re-recorded (ADR’ed) in the studio – one actor’s voice was even replaced by a voiceover artist to enhance the performance. As a consequence the complete soundscape was re-created from scratch which opened a lot of possibilities for Foley and sound design – squeaking chairs, cloth rustles, an old tandem bicycle…
Heartless (Director: K. Flynn)
A 10-minute horror short about three people sharing one heart. Just as for ‘The Last Pagan’ the whole soundscape was re-created from scratch, including the dialogue. The movie is set in a mountain hut in Austria – so I could even do some dialogue coaching to make the German accents more believable. The film has a very raw and tense feeling to it that is supported by music and sound effects.
The SnowWhite File (Director: R. Niermann)
Working on this musical short based on the song ‘Mirror Mirror’ by R. Lyske has been a great experience. The main challenge was to create the ‘fairy-tale’ setting and the ‘magical laboratory’ environment using sound. Since there was no sound recordist on set the whole soundscape was re-designed from scratch (looks like a common theme for the projects I am working on…). The song divides the film into three parts – introduction and ending being more sound-design based while the main section is dominated by the music.
The Deal (Director: D. Thomas)
This short was part of the BBC-funded ‘Talent Boost 2010’ project. It was challenging to mix since the production audio had various problems (ambient and wind noises, etc.). The film plays in an empty dock and shows two sets of characters at different times. Part of the sound design brief was to give the dock an abandoned feel – being slightly more busy when the film focuses on the work of the policewomen shown in the excerpt.
Morgan’s Organs (Director: R. Gildea)
This surrealistic film reminiscent of the French classic ‘Delicatessen’ was picked up by Canal+ for transmission on over 18 countries! The pumps that are used as heart replacements gave me an opportunity to visit various chemistry labs at the University of Manchester where I recorded a lot of moving, bubbling and buzzing pieces of equipment – great fun! If you like the excerpt – more can be seen on the ‘videos’ page!
